Timothy Brown, American, is a Professor of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University- Rwanda. With many years experience in coaching young tech entrepreneurs, Tim is also expert in the role of mobility in network controls and how to work with wireless protocols. After moving from CMU campus in Pittsburg, Tim has found that the tech entrepreneurs in Rwanda face much of the same issues. The biggest gap is not focusing enough on the customer, instead on your own perceptions. “First you start with a need in the market, then you work to understand your customer biases and constraints, “ Tim explains.
He received his B.S. in physics from Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from California Institute of Technology. He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, and the GWEC Wireless Educator of the Year Award.
