Since 2012, Esther Mutuma has served as the director and CEO at the Asante Foundation in Kenya. Joining Asante was a journey for Esther. As a banker working for Standard Chartered, she felt a real void when turning down farmers for loans and instead wanted to help them grow their businesses beyond sustenance. She joined Asante to identify how to best provide financing in under-served agricultural areas. As CEO of Asante Kenya, she overseas 1000’s of micro-credit loans and expands the capacities of farmers to take on more land, equipment and crops.

Prior to her work with Asante, Esther was the COO of Yehu Microfinance Trust and was a manager at Standard Chartered Bank. She earned a Masters in Social Enterprise and Community Development from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Nairobi.
