As a former relief and development professional, Adriaan Mol is passionate about economic development in Africa. “Unleashing the power of entrepreneurship is critical to achieving this – one reason why I transitioned to become a serial impact-entrepreneur; investor; and mentor to (social) enterprises,” Adriaan says. Adriaan develops commercially promising business models that positively impact social and environmental challenges in Africa. He is particularly interested in scalable social-enterprises in the agriculture, health, waste, water and renewable energy sectors. The ventures he has co-founded or worked with have a combined reach of more than 4 million people with the benefits of renewable energy, sanitation or safe drinking water. Adriaan’s involvement with his own enterprises ranges from being the hands-on startup entrepreneur to board member, investor, mentor or advisor.

Today, Adriaan is involved with developing an exciting new start-up in Kenya in the renewable energy space. He also advises Startle’s ‘green charcoal’ business, which is scaling a bamboo plantation in Madagascar. As a founder of BushProof – now in its 10th year – Adriaan remains involved with this successful forerunner in the field of low-cost drinking water supply. BushProof provided more people with safe drinking water than any other organisation on the island, reaching more than 1.5 million people.

Adriaan specializes in innovative start-ups and has over a decade experience with entrepreneurship in Africa, in addition to 10 years in operational and strategic management of NGOs. Adriaan boldly declares, “I’m unfazed by difficult situations.”
