Henricus (Hans) J. Stander III is an American with over 30 years of emerging market and investment experience. Most recently, before taking his entrepreneurial talents to Ethiopia, Hans was a Managing Partner at Surya Capital Limited in London. Surya paid particular emphasis on East African markets and Hans led the formation of companies in the renewable energy, financial services and real estate development sectors in Ethiopia. He continues to set up companies today in Africa and sit on Boards of Directors of companies in an independent capacity.

Between 2001 and 2008, Hans served as the Chief Investment Officer at ETF Group where he worked on the restructuring of ETF’s 86-company global TMT portfolio. Prior to ETF, he served as a Founder of TCW Group’s Emerging Market Private Equity platform. Hans joined TCW Group from Credit Suisse First Boston, where he was a member of the Global Privatization Group involved in large state disposals in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

Mr. Stander has spent over 25 years in venture capital, private equity and investment banking focused on international finance and expansion strategies for portfolio companies. He helped build TCW’s private equity business and subsequently co-founded Linea Ventures where he focused on cross-border internet and technology investing. Mr. Stander has structured, built and/or co-managed private equity funds across 6 regions totaling more than $2 billion, and has direct deal experience across financial services, transport & logistics, real estate, leisure, retail, health care, natural resources, light manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, communications, and technology hardware & software.
