Ed Chan-Lizardo

Edward Chan-Lizardo is experienced in launching businesses and raising funds for entrepreneurs.  Ed humbly describes himself as a “Generalist with in-depth experience ranging from fundraising to business development to program development.” The American “generalist” has years of valuable experience, both in the United States and in Africa. He is a Global Mentor for the African Entrepreneurship Award and is currently as Columbia University’s Director for Global Development, Asia.

Ed understands the challenges entrepreneurs face in raising funds and getting businesses off the ground. For nearly 10 years, 5 of which he spent in Nairobi, Kenya, Ed served as the Chief Operating Officer of KickStart International. KickStart creates opportunities for poor, rural, entrepreneurial farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa to make money and offers a permanent solution to address the deepest root of poverty; lack of income. During his tenure as COO, he increased impacts at KickStart by over 140%. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of KickStart’s programs, which included product/ innovations development, institutional partnerships, smallholder farmer outreach & education and sustainable supply chain development.

Prior to KickStart, Ed worked in the private sector. He held various management positions in technology companies including Handspring, a Smartphone manufacturer acquired by Palm, where he was Director of Asia-Pacific & Latin America. He has an MBA from the University of Michigan, a MS from Stanford University and a BS from Virginia Tech both in Mechanical Engineering. He is a graduate of INSEAD’s Social Entrepreneurship Program.
